GM is the best-selling automaker in the U.S. and one of the top-selling automakers in the world
GM finished number two to Toyota in 2008, mostly due to the sharp decline in auto sales in two of GM’s largest markets – the U.S. and Western Europe. However, GM remains the sales leader in the U.S. – the world’s largest market – with 2.98 million sales in ’08 compared to 2.22 million for Toyota. Last year, GM set sales records in two regions: Latin America, Africa and Middle East, and Asia Pacific. GM also is the sales leader in emerging markets and saw growth in 14 of these 26 markets in 2008. It competes hard for every sale, focusing on profitable, sustainable global growth.
